Tomorrows Innovations Today
Counterpoise Energy is an innovative, environmentally friendly power generator and energy storage solutions corporation established in June 2019. Our focus is developing high efficiency, high torque / low RPM / low emission fixed power generation and pump units that develop cleaner energy than current marketplace standards by utilizing the patented Counterpoise Bi-Radial multi fuel engine design technology by WolvertonBailey, Inc.
When packaged with an energy resilient battery system you reduce engine run time, reduce fuel usage, reduce emissions and lower overall operating costs. This multi-function engine design system powers generators for emergency power for residential and commercial applications, agricultural water and irrigation systems required to run on LP gas (New requirement for California), recharge vehicle battery systems and remote emergency power.
Counterpoise Energy Inc. is the revolutionary alternative in creating greener energy for power generation and energy storage.
Advantages of the Counterpoise Bi-Radial Engine Technology
• Non-reciprocating piston design which significantly reduces waste heat
• Lightweight with optimal power density – high torque at low rpm’s
• New piston bore angles for better fuel burn – lower emissions
• High fuel economy – with fuel choice flexibility
• Simplified design
Counterpoise Energy Inc. Conceptual Distributive Energy Model
Purpose: To use the capabilities of the Wolverton Bailey Counterpoise Engine combined with Energy Storage Systems (lithium), Counterpoise Energy Inc provides distributive energy storage and generator optimization solutions for semi-permanent and fixed site applications for military, specific commercial / residential applications, special operations, power grids and humanitarian relief efforts. The goal is a cost-effective, uninterrupted primary power supply and storage system that resides at the equipment providing no loss of power in the event power is lost due to grid disruption or an environmental event.
Distributive Energy Model
Fixed and Mobile Facility Issues: Aside from generator supported power supplies, fixed and modular/mobile facilities have common grid/UPS support issues:
• Local grid tie-in is generally above ground, exposed and constitutes a single point of failure.
• Lead acid battery back-up systems are unreliable, maintenance intensive, require ventilation, produce explosive gas and require various HAZMAT protocols and often cannot be co-located with the equipment they support.
• Key Codes and Satellite Links are often lost when power momentarily drops off line when switching from grid supply to alternative power supplies.
• The alternative power supplies are most often based upon a centralized energy generation concept that allows for a single point of failure.
• even when simply transferring from the grid to the alternative power supply.
• A well-developed Distributive Energy Model mitigates all of the above.
Concept of Operations – Decentralized Power Distribution: Unlike other uninterrupted power supplies, the Counterpoise Energy Storage System is designed to reduce fuel consumption over conventional generators and to be used in conjunction with Energy Storage Systems, which are designed to be placed in between the electrical distribution panel and the equipment to be powered, providing a direct and truly uninterrupted, clean power supply to the equipment being operated. The Energy Storage System becomes the primary power supply for each piece of equipment supported by the system through the use of an auto start capability which automatically brings the generator on line when the Energy Storage System reaches a predetermined depth of discharge. The advantage to this design is there will never be a power interruption if local grid, solar or wind power is lost, the distribution panel is damaged or destroyed, or a section of a building is damaged or destroyed. All equipment remains on line and never notices the power disruption ensuring mission critical systems such as communication suites, cryptographic, video surveillance, exterior lighting, hospital life support equipment, power grids, commercial / residential backup systems, etc. never come off line. This is true for a multitude of business and homeowner applications as well.
Distributed Power Advantage: The system design and safe Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO) chemistry allows it to be disbursed throughout a facility to any room or electrical/IDF/MDF closet allowing for distributed multi-site power locations to enhance power distribution and redundancy in the event of a catastrophic incident. With no HAZMAT, off gassing or heat generation concerns, the system can be deployed in any space throughout a facility, even a neo-natal intensive care unit.
In the event the grid is disrupted, power for mission critical equipment never sees the disruption and operations continue unaffected while the grid disruption is managed. The Energy Storage System systems can be easily moved between equipment should the need arise to support critical equipment over a long period of time. Individual Energy Storage System units can be added to or removed from one stack and plugged into another quickly without disruption. This provides the individual operator the ability to manage power requirements for mission critical equipment during prolonged power disruptions.
Generator Optimization: This is a key ROI issue. There is maintenance, security, logistic, and cost issues affecting generator operations. The following issues are germane to what we strive to accomplish:
• During grid power loss, generators become the single point of failure for the entire electrical system
• Generators are maintenance intensive, cost to operate and support is high
• When required or usage generators rarely operate within their optimum power range resulting in the consumption of more fuel than required for the amount of electrical energy being consumed.
• Generators are often in exposed areas and require on premise bulk fuel storage
• Local generator fuel supplies are expensive, local delivery unreliable and fuel quality is often poor.
• The energy generated by most internal combustion generators is subject to spikes and drops that often times result in the damaging or dropping of sensitive equipment.
The design of the Counterpoise Energy Storage System mitigates much of the above through reliability, alternative fuel capability (87 Octane, LP, Methane, Hydrogen) and a significant reduction in fuel usage.
The Counterpoise Energy Storage System Optimizes Run Time: When the generator is combined with an efficient Battery Management System it provides the user with the ability to program battery operations on site or remotely.
Bottom Line: The combined Counterpoise Energy Storage System provides the user piece of mind – they know their equipment is going to work no matter what happens to the electrical distribution infrastructure.
To optimize generator usage and run time, the Battery Management System can trigger the generator to start and stop for optimal recharging and generator efficiency, significantly reducing generator run time. By deploying correctly-sized energy storage systems to meet operational needs, the Battery Management System can be used to decrease generator runtime significantly. Additionally, the Energy Storage System buffers sensitive equipment from the generator’s inconsistent power, and when combined with the generator for prolonged operations allows the generator to always run in its optimum power range or band thus saving considerable fuel. The energy storage component can then also be used on a daily basis to reduce the facility’s total energy cost to produce by reducing energy specific purchases of fuel, peak time grid power, and the associated maintenance cost to support prolonged generator run requirements.
Efficient generator run time also address a significant personnel issue, optimizing generator run times reduces the sound, heat signature, and the fatiguing effects on personnel who are constantly exposed to generator noise while significantly reducing the logistic support to the generator, add in the exceptional reduction in fuel usage you significantly reduce generator fuel costs over a set operating cycle.
Additional / Other Power Generation Uses
The Counterpoise engine can be used as a stand-alone generator or in combination with a solar supported system where a lightweight system would be advantageous to operations. An example of this would be in autonomous water craft where the use of fueled generators in combination with solar arrays support battery operated engines for extended duration.
Another example would be in support of equipment used to produce forage fuel such as the TEC Reformer, a system designed to use low pressure/low temperature process to convert organic waste into a multitude of products such as methane, hydrogen, light weight oil for conversion to Jet A/Diesel etc. The Counterpoise engine could run the unit indefinitely off the waste gas produced during the reforming process.
The Counterpoise engine is lightweight, efficient and cost effective. The applications for the engine are innumerable and can be used in most any program where lightweight, efficient mid-range power generation is required.
